Tree Care
How can I make sure my real christmas tree lasts?
When bringing your beautiful tree home, the worst thing that could happen is it to start drooping and dropping needles before christmas day has even arrived.
To avoid this ensure that you follow this short xmas tree guide:
1. Cut a little bit off the bottom of your real tree. This will allow your tree to absorb water and remain looking greener for longer. Before you put your tree into water, however you want to make sure that the tree does not leak sap after being cut which will then harden at the bottom not allowing your tree to absorb any water. To make sure this does not happen, cut the christmas tree with a sharp saw.
2. It is very important that you put your tree in a large amount of water as soon as possible after being cut, whether this is in a bucket or a tree stand is up to you. To put into perspective how much water you may need a 6ft tree (medium-sized) will drink up to 1 pint of water per day when it has been freshly cut.
3. Along with ensuring that when you first get your tree you put it into water, you need to make sure that you are replenishing the water throughout the Christmas period to make sure the tree does not dry out.
4. Make sure to keep your tree as far away as possible from any direct heat such as radiators or fires, these will dehydrate the tree causing more of the needles to drop and for the tree to look very dry.
